Cider and the sea
The Basque sailors who went to Newfoundland to hunt whales every year took something very peculiar with them: three litres of cider a day for each crew member. Besides enjoying the drink, it was the best way to fend off scurvy, the scourge of sailors on long voyages. Cider and the Sea is a journey back to the 16th century, starting with a stop at Factoría Albaola to watch the reconstruction of a whaling ship and to learn about Basque maritime heritage. Afterwards, in keeping with the seafaring tradition, enjoy a meal washed down with cider.
