Take a tour of the maritime history of the Basque coast in this magnificent late seventeenth-century palacio in the historical quarter of Mutriku. Once owned by seafarers Antonio de Gaztañeta and Cosme Damian Churruca, it has been occupied continuously and preserved intact down to the present day. The present building was erected on the remains of the tower-house of the Arrieta family (in Basque “Arrietakua”) The Arrietakua Palace is one of the best preserved historical and heritage resources on the coast of Gipuzkoa and well worth a visit. Visitors can take a guided tour of the building, which lays particular emphasis on the women who contributed to maintaining and passing on the family heritage over the centuries.
