There is one small area of Gipuzkoa that is unique. Despite its size, it is enormously influential. Here, absolutely everything is related to cider: history, culture, economy, customs, ways of life, rituals, etc. This is what we call Cider Country. Astigarraga is the epicentre of the Basque cidermaking tradition and contains most of the cider houses in Gipuzkoa. And of course, it is also home to the Sagardoetxea museum, where you can discover all the secrets of the world of cider. As well as opening throughout the cider season, in January each year, towns across the area —such as Hernani, Astigarraga and Usurbil— also celebrate Sagardo Eguna (Cider Day).
